Location: Byron Bay, NSW
Intervention Area: 300m2
Year: 2025
Brief: To knock-down and rebuild a beach house, paying tribute to the modern Queenslander and the luxury resort aesthetics of coastal architecture.
Builder: Hearth Built
Structural Engineer: Westera Partners
Set on a privileged block in Byron Bay, this new build replaces an aging beach house with a light-filled family home shaped by a relaxed coastal sensibility and timeless materiality.
The design responds to the clients' vision of blending the elevated charm of a Queenslander with the sculptural, sun-washed softness of Santorini. A strong indoor-outdoor connection underpins the layout, creating a relaxed and functional space for a young family of four.
Lush vegetation is integrated throughout, with custom planters lining the upper balconies to soften the edges and bring greenery into daily view. A key feature is the west-facing balcony, designed specifically to capture the sunset.
The result is a modern coastal retreat that balances openness and privacy, everyday comfort and holiday atmosphere.
